Yes, he is an Orthodox saint.
He wrote some things which are not generally accepted in Orthodoxy. But we commemorate him for his great spirituality. His confessions are still powerful reading.

Er...judging by the Irish garb, I'd say that's St. Augustine of Canterbury, not St. Augustine of Hippo.
ReplyDeleteJust a heads-up. (I could be wrong, of course.)
JLB,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment. You might be right. I was going by the source. But who knows? His attire is definitely western but the icon is too, and for that matter so was Blessed Augustine. Unfortunatly Orthodox icons of St. Augustine are not terribly common.
If anyone has a better icon feel free to send it to me or post the link.

JLB,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the linked icon. I am saving it for future use. I checked on the one I have posted and a different website also ascribes it to Augustine of Hippo. Other than arguably the green vestments I did not see anything Irish in the icon. But I appreciate your looking out for the right icons.

Well, Saint Augustine of Canterbury is also an Orthodox saint. It's all good, though.
ReplyDeleteI thought you might be interested in what St. Augustine of Hippo has to say about divine illimination. Read it here: http://jandyongenesis.blogspot.com/2008/05/st-augustine-on-divine-illumination.html
ReplyDeleteThis came as a surprise to me.
