He wrote some things which are not generally accepted in Orthodoxy. But we commemorate him for his great spirituality. His confessions are still powerful reading.
JLB, Thanks for your comment. You might be right. I was going by the source. But who knows? His attire is definitely western but the icon is too, and for that matter so was Blessed Augustine. Unfortunatly Orthodox icons of St. Augustine are not terribly common.

JLB, Thanks for the linked icon. I am saving it for future use. I checked on the one I have posted and a different website also ascribes it to Augustine of Hippo. Other than arguably the green vestments I did not see anything Irish in the icon. But I appreciate your looking out for the right icons.

Er...judging by the Irish garb, I'd say that's St. Augustine of Canterbury, not St. Augustine of Hippo.
