More knavery from the National Catholic Reporter

I have long since come to expect the worst from the pages of NCR. But even I am shocked at this blatant and openly heretical screed. The author's ignorance of church history and teachings is so appalling that it should be embarrassing even for this sorry publication. This is the sort of drivel one expects on some fundamentalist anti-Catholic website.

Update: Fr. Z has a post up on this with numerous comments.

  1. Sounds like something I would have written 10 years ago. I should point out that I was anti-catholic (though polite) in those days.

Does this sort of thing happen often? Must be too many Catholics listening to AM radio.

  2. Apparently tons of other Catholic people agree with the sentiments expressed. Did you catch the comments section?

  3. YWB,
All of which serves as frightening evidence of how far the Roman Church has sunk over the last 40 years especially in N. America and Europe. Thank God for Pope +Benedict XVI. Why these people aren't Episcopalians is beyond me.

  4. Vatican II opened up a can of worms, that I am convinced has led to chaos such as this within modern Catholicism. There's no way of going back and undoing the damage in my estimation, although traditionalist Catholics see Pope Benedict XVI as their hope.

The very reason I am attending an Orthodox parish, and hope to be chrismated in the EO, is because of the rampant liberalism within the RCC. Those that betray the Catholic Church are within the very ranks of that Church, from liberal arch-bishops, bishops, priests, and nuns. So what can you expect but liberal laity when that's what they've been familiar with in the last 40 some years?

    My thoughts exactly.

hmmm... do you mean to say, the foolish cafeteria Catholics at NCR may as well be episcopalians? or is it a subtle dig: "all Catholics might as well be episcopalians. half of one heretic group, six dozen of the other?"

i wonder when the finnish orthodox church will be received into the anglican communion?

I meant the Heretics at NCR. There are degrees of error. Rome is nowhere near these theological clowns.

If the Finns are in fact supporting all of the wacko things that it sounds like they are then as I have noted before, they have major issues which they need to correct. If they continue to support these bizarre things then at some point many if not most of the other Orthodox churches will likely sever communion with them.

I think the Russians have already dropped a none too subtle hint about that. I know they have formally requested an explanation from the Holy Synod of the Finnish Orthodox Church about some of this. I have not heard about any replies yet.
