I read his First Circle in high school and became a great admirer--but I never read anything else of his other that Ivan Denisovich. He was always an enigmatic character, never more so than during his American exile.
Much of his noteriety was fueled by the Cold War, and he seems much less discussed now that so much of what he desired has in fact come about.
Now that he is freely read in Russia, I wonder what his reputation is there, and what the effect of his expulsion and return were.
Hard to believe he's two years gone.
