Met. +Hilarion addresses "liberal" Protestantism and the Anglican Communion
The full text of his speech to the Nicean Club Dinner at Lambeth Palace (Rowan Williams was there) can be found here. I am not going to post any excerpts. You need to read the whole thing. It is damning.
Excellent, excellent, excellent, the bishop knocked it out of the park. His comments are timely with pope Benedict's visit only days away in which Rowan Williams will hear more of the same. I think in Bishop Hilarion's comments, we are seeing the making of the next patriarch of Moscow.
When will he address the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America with such talk? It is filled with all sorts of liberal crap. It's easy to pick on the hapless Anglicans, it takes balls to take on your own church.
Though I agree with what Met. Hilarion said, I wish he had not framed the problems with the term "liberal". I think it is inexact, carries too many political overtones and could alienate people who would otherwise be sympathetic.
