It's one of the few things to pass the test of time. And Hollywood is full of money grubbing morons. Does this combination not suggest a sequel? Rosie O'Donnell will play the Donna Reed role, and she'll leave her husband for the racy chick in town, played by Ellen Degeneres. George, played by Charlie Sheen will change genders and marry Bert the cop, played by Alec Baldwin.

At one level, the original film could be interpreted as an apologia for the welfare state. (If you give people money, OF COURSE they will use it well!) Why do I suspect that that is the only aspect of the original that will survive this catastrophe in the making unscathed?
