I read the book Wolf Hall and found it frankly perverse. Cromwell threw thousands of monks and nuns into the streets. He destroyed a thousand year old civilization and wrecked the only form of social welfare system available to the poor of his time. Attempting to portray him as an enlightened reformer is preposterous. He is easily one of the most loathsome figures in English history. I love costume dramas but I believe I will give this one a miss.
