Bart is going to do it.
The Chief Secretariat of the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate announced on 7 September 2018 that within the framework of the preparations for the granting of autocephaly to the Orthodox Church in Ukraine, the Ecumenical Patriarchate has appointed as its Exarchs in Kiev His Excellency Archbishop Daniel of Pamphilon from the United States, and His Grace Bishop Ilarion of Edmonton from Canada, both of whom are serving the Ukrainian Orthodox faithful in their respective countries under the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

ReplyDeleteSo who is going to be in the right side? And what are the Orthodox faithful in the wrong jurisdiction supposed to do?
ReplyDeleteI don't know. Nobody knows.
ReplyDeleteBlame the hierarchs who haven't known what to do since the Empire fell.
Then came the Industrial Revolution and trans-oceanic transportation. And suddenly, their flock could just move away when the wars started or the economy collapsed.
They didn't bother figuring out what to do then either.
The only effect this is really going to have is to expose Constantinople as the meddling pseudo-Papacy it really is. Let Bart issue the tomos if he wants! He'll only be shooting himself in the foot. And who knows; maybe it will bring about some good. God has before brought hope out of despair, and good out of evil. Why not now?
ReplyDeleteIt's possible that at some point the "diaspora" Churches will tell the Mother Churches to grow up and deal with the real world if they don't want the overseas' jurisdictions withholding their remittances.
