It's Over

WASHINGTON — Hours after President Trump repeated a baseless report that a voting machine system “deleted 2.7 million Trump votes nationwide,” he was directly contradicted by a group of federal, state and local election officials, who issued a statement on Thursday declaring flatly that the election “was the most secure in American history” and that “there is no evidence” any voting systems were compromised.

The rebuke, in a statement by a coordinating council overseeing the voting systems used around the country, never mentioned Mr. Trump by name. But it amounted to a remarkable corrective to a wave of disinformation that Mr. Trump has been pushing across his Twitter feed.

The statement was distributed by the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, which is responsible for helping states secure the voting process. Coming directly from one of Mr. Trump’s own cabinet agencies, it further isolated the president in his false claims that widespread fraud cost him the election.

Donald Trump, being Donald Trump, is unlikely to ever admit that he lost the election. But he did. The lying and the crying will continue. But the farcical claims of a stolen election have been indulged for long enough.

It is somewhat ironic that a few posts below this, I had thrown out a few presidential trivia questions, one of which was to name the handful of presidents who did not attend the inauguration of their successor. I am guessing that the answer to that will need to be expanded in the near future.

  2. As the Duke of Wellington said to the man who addressed him as Mr. Smith, as
he passed him in the Strand, "If you believe that you'll believe anything."
Your Trump antipathy is clouding your judgment. Voting fraud was massive and everywhere.

  3. No, it was not. But one thing has become clearer in the post election. The GOP's transformation from a respected political party into a cult appears to be complete.

Cults are dangerous things, and they don't go away over night. I don't think we ever really figured out what busted up the Whigs, but looking at the GOP's record busts: 1929, 2007 and now 2020... I'm amazed they get the votes to take a whirl at the helm. But they do, and they've done it with the elbow grease the Mule Team can only dream about. But if these chances say anything at all, it's got to include the possibility that the Mule Team hasn't promised and/or delivered a whole lot better than the Elephant. That's sobering.

And I say this as someone on the Mule Team these days. What bugs me though is the myth making the Team does after every election, and it started last Saturday night. C'mon! Get over yourselves. You're freaking politicians. Even Joe says, "Time to get to work" and makes no pretense to the savior thing. We've got a savior... and His job isn't the presidency. Again, even and especially Joe knows this. Move on. We can't clean up and right all the wrongs. We can do better - if we try, and that's "we" as in "us"... not the politicians and the presidents and all that crap. Delegation is "do worsification". We're going to have to do this ourselves. All of us. And we'll have to live with everyone of every stripe. Even those who hate us... and they do. If we're half the folks I think we are, we'll do even them a good turn. So to Joe's "Build Back Better", I'd add "...without Bitterness". Yes it will be hard. Like Kennedy said, "We'll do this not because it is easy, but because these are hard" and that builds character. Something we used to value.

Good luck and Godspeed America. I'm rooting for ya!

Joe Biden is hitting the steep upslope of geriatric conditions and will not govern. The Democrats' goal is the unholy trifecta: hate speech, bureaucratically defined, is not free speech; assault weapons, bureaucratically defined, are not arms under the Second Amendment; and if you can get here, you can stay here.

That's why the Vice Presidential nominee is a resentful, not-very-bright Leftoid who couldn't attract more than 2% of the vote in the primaries. Of course, that's also why the enfeebled Joe Biden is the Presidential nominee. Congress doesn't matter any more. The Executive Branch and its extremely well-armed military is the real prize.

The goal in four years of a Harris/Biden administration is for the demographic shift to be cemented in place. You will be permanently electorally outnumbered and, hopefully, disarmed and de-platformed. Mencken's hobgoblins of COVID19 and CLIMATE CHANGE (and white supremacy, police brutality, transphobia, phobiaphobia, endless others) will be used to manage the economy and pick the winners and losers in the marketplace.

Meanwhile, the decent, principled conservatives will be arguing over marginal tax rates and the correct interpretation of the 14th Amendment.

The 400 remaining members of the Republican Party will nominate an icon of Abraham Lincoln for the 2024 election. As the Woke Social Worker Un-Police Force arrests them, they will lock arms and scream that you can kill them, their wives, their children, their extended families and their pets, but you can never kill the US CONSTITUTION! Then they'll be necklaced with burning tires, martyrs for the one true God, ClassicalLiberalism.
