Michigan Rep. Paul Mitchell quits GOP over party’s refusal to accept Trump loss to Biden

Details

The man was already retiring so I'm not super impressed with this as an act of political courage. But I will give him points for his public statement of principles.

  1. We've passed the event horizon into the vote-counters mattering more than the voters. The US government lacks legitimacy.

  2. Donald Trump and his lawyers aren't funny anymore. Their behavior has clearly crossed the line into attempting to overthrow the US Constitution and subvert a free and fair election via a villainous campaign of kooky conspiracy theories and outright lies, with the secondary objective of undermining the legitimacy of the US Government. He and Rudy Giuliani should be arrested and charged with sedition. I'd add Sidney Powell to that list but based on some of her statements I have serious doubts as to whether she is mentally competent to stand trial. In any event she should be stripped of her law license.

  3. Get off your high horse, John. Trump plays a game of politics no less edgy than his political opponents. I don't remember you clutching your pearls about employees of the US government employees working against Trump 4 years ago, on taxpayer time, in cahoots with very shady characters, knowing there was no Russia collusion but still abusing the taxpayers, and their claiming his presidency was not legit, even to the point of a bogus impeachment - again, all just politics. Your wacko animus against Trump would have more credibility if you had applied your invective even just a wee bit more equally these past 4 years on those with no higher moral standing or behavior than Trump.

  4. Yeah it's pretty easy to take a principled stand when you ride out with a fully vested congressional pension.

That being said, I'm just ready to move on and keep trying to work out my salvation with fear and trembling.

  5. Absurdly, statistically anomalous election that somehow resulted in a landslide for an immuno-compromised man confined to his basement. Voting will never again be allowed to change the government.

Arrested and charged with sedition? Hilarious. Contact the Sergeant-At-Arms of Congress. And which Constitution are we talking about here, the one that mandates abortion and gay marriage and no longer includes freedom of association?

  6. The constitution is already dead, so I don't know how Trump could subvert it. If you can't see the fraud when the fraud has grabbed you by the lapels and is screaming at you "I AM A FRAUD", then I have no words for you

  7. John, you're not going to change those who drank the Trump Kool-Aid and have lost their critical faculties.
