Good riddance,
Hard to improve on the above comment. A destructive utterly useless career of degrading behavior. He will be remembered fondly by his fellow churchmen.

I don't know which one did the most damage to what was once was the Protestant Episcopal Church of the United States of America, this guy or Bishop James Albert Pike.
Rebel - Pike cleared the way for Spong. I'll try not to judge him in light of my own sins, but I prefer my odds to his.
Spong referred to pike as a prophet. He got one thing right after all. It’s amusing to see the long faced comments by episcopalians commenting on Spong’s death. Speaking of his rest with the saints, funeral plans. They don’t seem even now to have ever read his drivel! He didn’t believe in God at all! He did have one good effect. Fr Peter Gilquist used to say that between bishop Spong and bishop Babs (Barbara Harris) the Orthodox Church had attracted many converts.

If Pike prepared the way for Spong, this guy prepared the way for Pike:

Guys of this ilk die on the vine long before their earthly demise.
