I’ve only seen anecdotal quotes from clergy saying they’ve never seen anything like this surge, but I haven’t seen any actual data that proves the convert surge today is all that different from past surges heralded by people in similar roles.
Is the surge today really all that different from the 90s? or from the ongoing demographic change in U.S. jurisdictions in the 2000s and 2010s? Even if converts make up an even larger % of jurisdiction and parish membership, is this because there are a larger number of converts or fewer cradle today to compare them against as the denominator? It just seems to me clergy will be naturally Inclined to optimism, excitement, free press, and emphasizing the top end of any estimates and any outlier examples.
