Panic on the Randolph Street BridgeThe whole cow story was a lie cooked up by a newspaperman. To this day no one knows with certainty how the great fire started. The end of the 1937 classic film "In Old Chicago" contains a remarkably good (for the era) depiction of the fire with all the chaos and panic.
