My Holiday Weekend: Killing time with the family, baseball and a trip back to the 70's

So yea, I'm home visiting the family and helping with my step-father who is suffering from dementia.  But of course it's a holiday weekend.  Even better, it's a holiday weekend by coincidence and not design.  They haven't quite gotten up the nerve to move the 4th of July to the first Monday after the first Sunday of July. Each year my family has a get together at my dad's place on the 4th.  I have missed a few of these being on the other side of the country.  So it's kinda nice to be home.

As you may have noticed there has not been a ton of blogging this weekend.  That will likely last until Tuesday.  I have been hanging out with the family, helping to set things up and watching the Mets - Yankees games that are traditional fair in July.  Needless to say I didn't much care for the first two games which were rather boring.  But at least today's was exciting with a bottom of the 9th two outs and two strikes rally.

When not doing baseball we spent some time watching a TV series called Life on Mars that my sister recommended (she has the DVD set).  If you have a yin for the 70's and never saw the series you might want to pick up the DVDs.  Plot synopsis: An NYPD detective from 2008 gets hit by a car and wakes up in 1973.  Same spot, same name, still a cop, but it's 1973.  The series was fun and a little pointed about society (then and now). Love the scene where they are trying to talk a guy out of jumping off a building who lost all his money on a crazy new invention... a portable phone small enough that people could put it in their briefcase.  One of the detectives says "What a moron!  Who would wanna carry a phone around all the time?"

Anyway tomorrow promises to be a pleasant day; lots of sun, not too much humidity, and lots of hot dogs and burgers (apologies to those on the old calendar).  I hope everyone has a great day.
