He is the most incompetent person ever to occupy the presidency. He is the most corrupt (by far) president in US history. He is a naked racist who openly courts the support of white supremacists and others of a similar ilk. He has repeatedly attempted, with varying degrees of success, to subvert the rule of law. He has abused the powers of his office to aid his family, as well as his political and business allies, up to and including granting pardons and commutations of sentences. Roger Stone being only the most recent example. He is a pathological liar. He has alienated most of our allies while cozying up to the most despicable despots and enemies of the US like Kim Jong Un, V.V. Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. He has reduced the Republican Party to a cult of personality, heavily populated by kooks, cranks, conspiracy theorists and bigots.
I concede he has done some good things including most of his judicial appointments, his enforcement of immigration law and his willingness to stand up to China (though predictably he made a hash out of that). But none of that can make up for his catalog of failings.
His supporters have become so cultish that I can't even have conversations with most of them anymore because they don't inhabit the same plane of reality as the rest of the world. They trust World Nut Daily over the World Health Organization.
Trump is a demagogue and the GOP is his cult. We no longer have a conservative political party in the country and that is a bad thing. But whatever the cost, Trump must go along with his sycophants and enablers.
Is Trump flawed? Obviously! But there are things far, far WORSE than he is. Anti-Trumpers for one thing closely followed by Quid Pro Joe and virtually any Democrat.
I didn't ask you to point and sputter like an old coot. I asked you for a harmful thing that he has done. Like, start a Middle Eastern war on Iraq on false pretenses, or give part of Serbia to the Muslims. Quarter soldiers in your home. Tax your whiskey. Something.
You sort of take a stab at it with Roger Stone, who's guilty, of anything, of being a fabulist and dandy. Didn't you delete all your Russiagate posts when that cherished fantasy of yours evaporated? Really weak.
I have deleted two posts that I can recall from my blog. The first one was a personal attack that I posted against someone in the heat of the moment and for which I apologized. The second was a report about Iran forcing Jews to wear the yellow star of David, which turned out to be a false news story. If you don't consider the list I posted as being harmful, then all I can say is we disagree.
You are losing your country while hoping Marcus Aurelius is out there somewhere and can restore classical liberalism. It will not happen. Trump is providing valuable political and cultural space for conservatives before the curtain comes down on the political process.
What, in your opinion, are the harmful things Donald Trump has done?
ReplyDeleteAny way, he will get his wish: Biden is a tomato can.

ReplyDeleteBe careful there, John. They are your fellow Americans. This Vietnam vet has learned the hard way that you may have to depend on such for your life.
