And a happy Thanksgiving back to you. This year I'm afraid it's frozen turkey loaf for two, with a couple hours of facetiming with kids and grandkids. But sometimes I think it's good to be a little deprived, to keep from taking for granted what we can enjoy in normal times.
I remember, in college, realizing that songs such as "There'll be bluebirds over the white cliffs of Dover" and "I'll be home for Christmas" came out of my own parents' disrupted lives, and how they sacrificed--my mother, from a small Southern town to DC to manufacture "black powder," my dad, to New Guinea and the Philippines under MacArthur. Compared to theirs our "sacrifices" are almost non-existent, I think.
