Chile Says 'No' to New Leftist Constitution

The hard left constitution was rejected in what is looking like a landslide. With around 72% of the vote in, the margin is currently running roughly 60:40 against.

All of Chile's Catholic Bishops Resign (Updated)

All 34 bishops tendered letters of resignation in response to the ongoing sexual abuse scandal. Pope Francis will decide whether or not to accept some, all or none of the resignations.

Update: Wow! According to the AP, this was basically a mass sacking. Pope Francis demanded, and got the resignations after accusing the bishops of collective culpability in the child sex abuse scandals that have roiled the Roman Church in Chile (and elsewhere). Purely on a side note this means the Pope can also appoint anyone he wants as replacements. I don't think it requires much imagination to figure out what ideological bent they are likely to demonstrate.

Disaster in Chile

The news is just coming over the wire that there has been a massive earthquake in Chile. Early reports put the quake at just under 9 magnitude. That is enough to bring down buildings that are built to rigorous earthquake codes. An urgent Tsunami warning has also been issued. It is far too early for any reliable damage and casualty estimates. However it is bound to be terrible.

Please pray for the people of Chile.
