Good observation, I like it! I was in Europe on the eve of the Euro (12/01). While I am no scholar, I have become sceptical with regard to how far this can progress. The Common Market was fine and the opening of borders seems to work well (except that the vaunted Autobahn was not prepared for the volume of commercial traffic). But the creeping surrender of soverignty (sp?) and national identity is something else.
