A (sometimes controversial) giant in the history of American Orthodoxy has passed. May his memory be eternal!

God rest this lion's soul. His bold talk will be sorely missed.

And some of his bolder actions will not be.

Controversial indeed. It'll be interesting to see who will take his place.

The rumors I have heard is that he won't be replaced.

How does that work? Is Damascus pulling their "self-ruled" status?

I have been told the Patriarchate wants to add more bishops and just deal with a synod. This is from well down the food chain, so cum grano salis.

FWIW I have heard similar rumors from similar sources. But my rumors are dated by a couple years. The understanding was that Philip was seen as something of a minor Caesar over here and this did not sit well in Antioch or with some of his demoted "auxiliary bishops." But the feeling was that given his age and known health issues it was better to just nature resolve the problem and then put things to right afterwards.
