Four Uncontroversial Paragraphs for Saturday
I have haven't always agreed with Gabriel's commentary on the Orthodox Church, but this one seems pretty fair and balanced (apologies to Faux News).

This is a common misunderstanding by Westerners who want to put Orthodoxy on their own scale of "Conservativism" vs "Liberalism" but there is a very clear consensus from theologians such as Georges Florovsky or Met. Hierotheos Vlachos that it is a grave error to confuse Orthodoxy's traditionalism with conservatism.
Furthermore, the author seems to mistakenly think the Orthodox Church is somehow in favour of scholasticism when perhaps the most characteristic of modern Orthodox fathers, St Gregory of Palamás, spent most of his efforts refuting the Barlaam's western-influenced theories, which are the essential expression of scholasticism.
These are not mere details or window dressing; these are fundamental differences in mindset that are the core of our faith. The fact is "Liberal" and "Conservative" Westerners are closer to each other than they are to Orthodoxy.
