What took them so long? I have never understood Romishly inclined Anglo-Catholicism. Perhaps it is too subtle for me.

It's simple. Old Rome sucks. Leaving Anglicanism for Latinism is a last-resort act of desperation. They're not coming to Orthodoxy because we're not well understood. While we like Anglicans, we don't care enough to explain ourselves. Why not? Because the issue is less about theology than about alien ethnicities. I feel compassion, but even my tender feelings have their limits.

Maybe it's just a first step. No-one in their right mind can get Roman fever nowadays, can they? So, you're right, it must be an act of pragmatic desperation. As Jaroslav Pelikan once said, returning to the Church you broke from is always an option (though he, himself, was wise enough to return a little further).

I actually wrote recently to a Forward in Faith priest, telling him that he could go Western rite under ROCOR if ethnicity was an issue. I just got a snotty response back saying that he intended to remain Anglican but that if this ever became untenable, he would lean more tirades Rome than Moscow. There's no helping some people!
