RIP: Whitney Houston

Very surprised to learn of her untimely passing.  She was 48.  Memory eternal.

I wasn't a fan of her style of music, really, but -- man, oh man -- she had an amazing voice. From what little I know, she pretty much pioneered the kind of vocals that are pervasive now in Hip Hop.

Such talent and fame, but very little happiness in her life. She is in my prayers.

Sadly, I was not surprised. Cocaine is an awful drug. I've never been in that culture, but I did know several users and none of them were ever able to turn their lives around afterward.

I'm not one to be sentimental about a pop singer, but I do remember this song played at the first dance I ever went to (at the end of 6th grade), and I'll say that I do like this version better as it is without all the pop instrumentation - a great voice indeed:
