Archbishop Vincent Nichols 'offered flowers at the altar of Hindu deities'

Damian Thompson has the story.

This is a sad and shocking moment. The Archbishop whom we had hoped was, by the standards of the British Catholic episcopate, a traditionalist (relatively speaking) places flowers in front of an idol. Obviously Archbishop Nichols was not worshipping it, but his gesture was a monumental instance of religious insensitivity to the fundamentals of Christianity and lack of awareness of the basics of our faith. Didn't he know what he was doing, and have any idea of the hazards of a polytheistic ecumenical visit? Worse still the archiepiscopal website, if Damian Thompson of the Telegraph is right, then tried to cover up what had happened. A slightly shameful moment in the history of the Catholic Church

I'd comment, but I'm busy picking up my jaw from the floor.

While if it makes anyone feel any better, the vast majority of Hindus are monotheistic... Yeah I didn't think that would help anyone. ;)

Don't have anything special to say. Just wanted to tell you I really enjoy the stories you find.
There's something very special about stories like that!
