MOSCOW (Reuters) - A masked gunman entered a church and murdered a Russian Orthodox priest who had received death threats for converting Muslims to Christianity and criticizing Islam, prosecutors and church officials said Friday.Read the rest here.
The killing could threaten delicate relations between the powerful majority Russian Orthodox Church, which has close ties to the Kremlin, and the country's growing Muslim minority of about 20 million.
The gunman approached priest Daniil Sysoyev, 34, in St Thomas Church in southern Moscow Thursday night, checked his name and then opened fire with a pistol, a spokesman for the investigating committee of the Prosecutor-General's office said.
"The main theory is that religious motives are behind the crime," spokesman Anatoly Bagmet said.
Sysoyev died on the way to hospital. His choirmaster was injured in the attack, Bagmet said, and is in hospital under armed guard.
May the memory of Fr. Daniil be eternal.

It's too bad that a masked gunman entered an Orthodox Church in Moscow and shot the priest, killing him.
It is believed this crime was carried out because this priest had recently converted Muslims to Orthodoxy. There is no excuse for such fanatic violent behavior.
If Russia cracks down on Islamic fundamentalist will NATO bomb Moscow as it did Belgrade?
St. Daniil Sysoyev ora pro nobis.
Holy Martyr Daniil, pray for Russia and for us all.
Fitna is disagreeing with Mohammed. It is a capital crime of thought in Islam. Any Muslim may carry out the death sentence and will be a hero for doing so. Mohammed assassinated his critics and had them assassinated. Freelance assassins who even murdered family members were given the highest praise by Mohammed. This is the man all Muslims are commanded to emulate. Father Sisoyev’s murder for fitna is normative Islam and surprises no one who understands this core doctrine of Islam. Islam is a mind-control and information-control death cult. Information about Islam is normatively controlled by violence and the threat of violence. There is no freedom of expression in Islam. Islam is antithetical to the Golden Rule and the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights.
Orthodox Christians urgently need to understand this key official dogma of Islam.
Please pray for the 'Martyr Church' in Iraq which has suffered the greatest number of victims of Islamic violence!
