Pastor supporting Perry says Romney is not a Christian, belongs to a 'cult'

WASHINGTON — The pastor who introduced Texas Gov. Rick Perry at a conservative gathering Friday said rival presidential candidate Mitt Romney is not a Christian and is in a cult because he is a Mormon.

Umm yea. But sometimes tact would suggest passing over certain observations, especially if your trying to plug a guy for president, true though they may be.  On a side note, I'd be a little surprised if  this guy didn't feel the same way about Catholics and Orthodox Christians (assuming he has even heard of us).

A bit a honesty would be refreshing in US politics for a change. I think Romney is a nice, smart, and pleasant guy, but let's face it: Mormonism is a cult, plain and simple. At a minimum they deny the divinity of the Triune God, which automatically removes them from the Christian "club". Having Romney win the election would a proselytizing coup for the Mormons and they know it.

Yeah, Perry just got shot in the foot by his own team. Yes the LDS is a 'cult' but depending on whose definition so is the Catholic and Orthodox Churches. Personally I think Baptists especially Southern Baptists are a cult. By the way, Romney bey elected president will have no greater effect than Catholic JFK or Evangelical Southern Baptist Jimmy Carter or Methodist George W. Bush.
Move along, nothing to see here!

Innocently asking Mormons whether they're Christians is an excellent way to turn a sedate dinner party into a brawl.

Personally, I'm fine with Mormons or Freemasons or independent Old Calendarists as Presidents. Cults? That's for the exquisitely precious academic theologians to determine.

I personally think Mormonism is a heresy but , elections should not be based on religion, but on whether or not a candidate supports a natural moral law on issues.

Romney, and any Mormon offended by being referred to as cultists, need to be asked why they adhere to a religion whose prophet, Joseph Smith, referred to Christianity, in general, as being cultic.
He actually, claimed that God Himself referred to Christianity as “all wrong,” an “abomination,” “all corrupt” and “far from me”—this is the very foundation of the Mormon religion.
