That would presuppose a conspiracy that would be pretty big. And I'm just not seeing any motive for that. They may be wrong, but I doubt they would be intentionally lying.
Intelligence officials lie as a matter of course, doesn't require much of a conspiracy to do that.
A fair point. But they don't usually lie without a motive. What is their motive here? The Turks loathe the Assad regime so saying bad things about the people trying to depose him doesn't seem to in their interest. And then there is the fact that we have similar reports coming from different organizations. That suggests either the reports are true or there is a conspiracy of some kind, to what end I can't guess.
No bodies have turned up yet, but also no photographs or ransom demands which are normal in these situations. While I hope I am wrong the circumstantial evidence, coupled with these recent reports leaves me fearing the worst.
