'Hobbit' movie adaptation to be a trilogy

Peter Jackson's film adaptation of "The Hobbit" will be split into three movies, the director and the studios behind the venture said on Monday.

Jackson said that given the richness of the story -- which is set 60 years before "The Lord of The Rings" -- he decided after wrapping up shooting recently in New Zealand that what was originally planned as two movies would now be a trilogy.
Read the rest here.

It's all about the buck.

I'm so outraged that I'm only going to see it in theatre's once, and once only.

I'm so utterly appalled, outraged, and shocked that I'm going to do the exact same thing I do with every other movie: Watch it when it comes out on DVD! ;-) lol

I'm outraged that he didn't make 12 Lord of the Rings movies and do the books some justice. If The Hobbit is rich enough for a trilogy, surely LotR is rich enough for 3 trilogies, or even 6.

Yes, yes ... it's annoying to have it in three movies. However, perhaps you don't know that Jackson is adding/developing aspects of this Hobbit story to flesh out Tolkien's saga about this age of Middle Earth. For example, he is developing "the Battle of Dol Guldur" and the new arising of Sauron as the "Necromancer." Remember that Tolkien wrote The Hobbit first, long before LOTR, and that plot elements of the latter developed as he wrote it. In fact, Tolkien had to go back and revise a bit of The Hobbit to make it fit the later LOTR. So, Jackson is doing something rather daring, to be sure, but something very interesting in these expansions. Considering how well he did it with the LOTR movies, I think I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
