Quote of the day...

Is there anyone on earth, from the Pope to Mao Tse Tung, who can be entirely certain that he is not an Episcopalian?
-Uncertain but widely attributed to William F. Buckley

I LOVE it!

I have a friend whose church is one of the "breakaways" from the Episcopal church and is now considered "Anglican." And yet, she still continues to proclaim that she is an Episcopalian despite disagreeing with everything TEC is doing and currently stands for. Most of the members of her church would soundly say that they are NOT Episcopalian!

Considering the wishy-washy stance of the Episcopal Church and the strange things going on it it (with priests who claim to be Buddhist, Hindu, or Muslim) it is very timely statement.

Thanks for a great quote.

One of the wittiest of Buckley's great lines.

There is no doubt about the attribution to Buckley. It may not appear in his published writings, but he said it on an episode of Firing Line that I was watching. It cut me to the quick -- I was still Episcopalian at the time.

This is an arrogant and discriminatory statement by William F. Buckley.

Frankly, I would not want to be an Episcopalian -- based on that Church's acceptance of gay clergy and same-sex marriages -- and if I were Episcopalian, I would convert to another Christian religion.

George,
Mr. Buckley's comment was a subtle dig at the Episcopalians cloaked in his very understated humor.
