Pariarch Kirill Condemns Rise of Gay Marriage in the West

MOSCOW, July 21 (RIA Novosti) – Head of the Russian Orthodox Church warned Western governments on Sunday against legalization of same-sex marriages what he called a sign of approaching end of the world.

Patriarch Kirill said during a service at Moscow’s major cathedral that the recent initiatives in a range of countries to legalize same-sex marriages “is a dangerous and apocalyptic symptom” that should not spread over to Russia, according to Russian media reports.

While those who “fight the laws imposed by the minority are subject to repressions,” Kirill, who leads the Church known for its conservative views, was quoted as saying during his speech at Kazan Cathedral near Red Square on Sunday.

Russian authorities have been repeatedly criticized by human rights groups and Western officials over a recently passed law introducing punishment for “the promotion of nontraditional sexual relationships” among minors.

Will the Patriarch forbid children to see "Peter and the Wolf" and listen to other music composed by Tchaikovsky?

Your gift for inane comments appears to be limitless.

First time I laughed all day, John. Thanks

Well, I suppose that you know about Tchaikovsky.....It isn't inane to ask exactly what the Patriarch thinks about art and literature, science, etc;... all areas of human activity, ( as well as religion, of course), populated to a certain degree by those he considers to be an apocalyptic symptom.

The fact that you don't even realize how idiotic your commentary is, is in itself amusing. The suggestion that condemning vice should also require banning someone's artistic contributions on the basis of their personal sins could only come from the mind of a liberal. I suppose that you are of the opinion that those of us who condemn drunkenness should also favor banning the works of Edgar Allen Poe and Tennessee Williams, two famous alcoholics.

But it isn't vice that's being condemned. It's people who are being condemned. Your last comment could only come from the mind of a conservative.

By the way, when are you going to post your musings on economics? What defense do you have concerning the very rich whose vice is clearly more damaging to people than homosexuality?

You are, as ever, mistaken. It is vice that is condemned and those who promote it. As for what I post, that is up to me. In any event I think you have already demonstrated your fundamental illiteracy on a wide range of economic subjects, such as the national debt. I seem to recall your suggestion was to just repudiate it because it wasn't real.

As amusing as your trollish comments are I find that they take up too much of my time and so I am going to suggest that you start your own blog where you can post whatever you want for the benefit of any who wish to wander by. Which is to say that your commentary here is no longer welcome.

That's great. But the West doesn't take Patriarch Kirill seriously. Maybe you'll get somebody imitating Andy Kauffman's Russian-joke character's 'thank you very much'; then the West will go back to pretending the same sex can marry each other and that people can change their sex.

One of the best characteristics of the Russians in general and Pat. Kirill in particular is their total lack of desire to suck up to the reigning zeitgeist in the West. No fawning. Somebody in the world has to say, "Here's the bar below which we will not stoop" and "Here's the ideal to which we all must strive." Thank God for Pat. Kirill.
