Well said.
In a kingdom the inhabitants are not called "citizens," but "subjects." The king is "my king," and if the subject is not loyal to his king he is a traitor.
We in the United States don't live in a monarchy, at least not yet. Trump is not "my president"; neither was Biden. Each man was chosen to preside over the executive branch of a republic with three co-equal branches. The purpose of the executive branch is, of course, to faithfully execute the law enacted by the legislative branch and interpreted by the judicial. As a citizen my loyalty is to the constitution of the republic, not to the president, not to the speaker of the House, not to the Chief Justice.
As a free citizen I am subject to the law, and those enforcing it and interpreting it. The president has no authority to directly order me to do anything outside of performing his constitutional duty. Those who work for him in the executive branch and soldiers in our armed forces do have a special obligation, due to their position, to obey lawful directives and orders.
Obviously, with a president who expressly considers himself beyond the law, our civil servants and soldiers will be in a terrible position these next four years when the president (as he has repeatedly done already in his first week) issues orders explicitly at odds with the constitution and federal statutes.
