There seems to have developed a custom of broadcasting and watching war movies on Memorial Day. I am not really opposed to the idea though I think far too many films tend to glorify armed conflict. For those who have a mind to recall the meaning of the day by watching a movie, I have two that I can recommend without hesitation.
Saving Private Ryan and...
Taking Chance
The latter is an HBO film which will almost certainly be shown tomorrow. Both are wonderful movies and very appropriate for the day, though Saving Private Ryan's graphic violence renders it unsuitable for young children.
