Obama to fight for tax cuts, but not for the rich

The Obama administration has faced a difficult choice: Does it put off the fiscal crisis looming at the end of the year by capitulating to Republican demands to extend all the Bush tax cuts until 2013 — a move that would infuriate the Democratic base and muddle the campaign’s message? Or does it stand and fight on fiscal policy, even if that means increasing the chance that markets panic in the most crucial months for the president’s reelection bid?

On Monday, President Obama chose door No. 2, proposing a one-year extension of the Bush tax cuts for families making less than $250,000 and, through his press secretary Jay Carney, promising to veto any effort to “extend tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.” It’s a strategic decision that could have a tremendous effect on the economy — and thus on the president’s chances in the fall.

Can anybody anywhere cite how it is moral for government politicians and workers to confiscate private property, skim off for themselves a hefty portion, and use the rest to buy votes to perpetuate the cycle? Is this just? Is this what is meant to be Christian?

Since this article deals only with the question of taxation and not any of its uses, I gather you are an anarchist opposed to any form of government or taxation.

No, I am not an anarchist. All must be equal under the law, but I find that modern tax policy erodes that equality; we've let our political class establish itself as a broker, dealing out confiscation and with exemptions with great caprice. Vote for me, and I won't take from you, but from the other guy, make sure I keep some for me, and sprinkle out the rest to keep me in office. We're now a nation of favoritism, be it corporate welfare or individual welfare.

And yet this passes somehow as moral; all I'm asking for is a spirited defense of this system from a Christian perspective, and have yet to find it.

If your looking for a spirited defense of our system, you have come to the wrong blog lol. I may have libertarian leanings but I believe the only Christian form of government is divine right sacramental monarchy.
