Venezuelan Strongman Hugo Chavez's Health Declines - VP Rushes to Cuba

CARACAS, Venezuela — Hugo Chavez has suffered “new complications” following his cancer surgery in Cuba, his vice president said Sunday, describing the Venezuelan leader’s condition as delicate.

Vice President Nicolas Maduro did not give details about the complications, which he said came amid a respiratory infection. Maduro spoke in a televised address from Cuba.

Maduro had arrived in Havana on Saturday in a sudden and unexpected trip to visit Chavez. He said Sunday that he had met with Chavez and he “referred to these complications.”

I never understand why he keeps running to Cuba for treatment. Is the medical system in Venezuela so poor or in Cuba so good? Or, did he watch Michael Moore's movie "Sicko"? Perhaps, he just wants to be near Papa Fidel in his hour of need.

I would pray for his soul should he die... but is it wrong to pray for his death?

Probably... so I'll pray for his conversion. But I won't mourn his death.

What exactly has Hugo Chavez done to warrant someone to pray for his death?

Is setting up a non-capitalist society worthy of such hostility?

What wars has he started? Which nations has he bombed? How many innocents has he slaughtered?

Here's another question - if our Western media didn't demonize him in their publications and broadcasts, would we even know he existed?

He has supported the Maoist terrorist group FARC in neighboring Columbia and has certainly been responsible responsible for numerous innocent lives lost. His actions have strained relations between the two countries to the breaking point. He has suppressed the free press and jailed political opponents on trumped up charges. What's left of the media is state own3ed and run and effectively is a propaganda organ for his own party.

He has confiscated en mass the private property of anyone who has dared to criticize his thuggish regime. All in all Id say he is just your typical left wing pol.

^ The above has also been reciprocated by our own country.

Support of terrorist groups? Check

Strained relations with former allies/neighboring countries? Check

Media suppression/control, jailed dissidents on trumped up charges? Check (Ezra Pound, although not current day, comes immediately to mind)

Confiscated private property under eminent domain, or after jailing said dissidents? Check (said private property is also taxed, which makes this property not-so-private in the first place)

So aren't we just projecting our own faults onto a manufactured boogeyman? We wag our finger at the guy, but we've got no leg to stand on. The moral ground has been ceded.

For Chavez's sake alone, I wouldn't wish for his death. I'm not the sort that wishes death on sinners for their bad behavior. I would, however, pray for his death for the sake of Venezuela.

The citizens of that country have been objectively impoverished and suffer greatly because of Chavez, and his death would at least have the effect of cutting his tyranny off in its prime. For that reason I say it would be best should he die.

I would never wish for death for someone on a path towards damnation (as I feel Chavez likely is). But I maintain that his death would be a net positive for the people he oppresses, yes.

I'd be okay with his absence, however derived.
