Missouri State Legislature Ponders Insurrection

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Unless a handful of wavering Democrats change their minds, the Republican-controlled Missouri legislature is expected to enact a statute next month nullifying all federal gun laws in the state and making it a crime for federal agents to enforce them here. A Missourian arrested under federal firearm statutes would even be able to sue the arresting officer.

This needs to be called what it is, a declaration of armed insurrection against the United States Government. These clowns are threatening arrest, and by implication... violence, against any officer or employee of the US Government who attempts to carry into execution the laws of the United States.

THAT IS INTOLERABLE.

And these illiterate herbs, who seemingly can neither read the plain language of the Constitution nor hold any regard for 200 years of settled case law apparently want to play armed anarchist. Andrew Jackson called  nullification what it was. Treason. The President should put them on notice that if any Federal officer is arrested or attacked while carrying into execution the laws of the Republic that he will arrest each and every member of the state legislature who votes for this constitutional abortion.

Missouri may bring back gas chamber due to dwindling lethal injection supplies

ST. LOUIS — With drugs needed for lethal injection in short supply and courts wrangling over how to execute prisoners without them, Missouri's attorney general is floating one possible solution: Bring back the gas chamber.

In court filings and interviews this week, Attorney General Chris Koster noted that Missouri statutes allow two options for executions: lethal injection and death by gas. Koster's comments come amid his growing frustration over the Missouri Supreme Court's refusal to set execution dates until lethal injection issues are resolved.

"The Missouri death penalty statute has been, in my opinion, unnecessarily entangled in the courts for over a decade," Koster said Wednesday in an email exchange with The Associated Press.

Asked about concerns by some who say using lethal gas could violate condemned inmates' constitutional guarantee against cruel and unusual punishment, Koster responded: "The premeditated murder of an innocent Missourian is cruel and unusual punishment. The lawful implementation of the death penalty, following a fair and reasoned jury trial, is not."

This guy is toast. As in stick a fork in him, he's done. There are some things in this world that you can't say and be forgiven for (at least in politics) and he crossed that line. Right now Akin couldn't get elected as dog catcher in a county with a rabies infestation. But he has no real motive to kowtow to the GOP big shots since they did absolutely nothing to help him win the nomination. Long story reduced to short form is that the Missouri Senate seat which should have been a GOP gain is now almost certainly a Democratic hold. And this clown could give the Dems a lot of ammo in other races with tea party very hard right nominees. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.

Missouri Senate Race Is In Turmoil Following Rape Comments

Missouri Republican Rep. Todd Akin apologized Monday for comments he made about "legitimate rape" over the weekend, but rejected growing clamor even from fellow Republicans for him to abandon his Senate bid.

Akin, who's been embroiled in an uproar since suggesting that "legitimate rape" rarely results in victims' pregnancy, acknowledged he made "serious mistakes" in responding to a question about his stance on abortion rights in cases on rape.
