A follow up to the preceding post

There is a lively discussion going on over at Rorate Caeli (a Trad Catholic blog) on the comments by Metropolitan Hilarion quoted in the previous post.

Reading the comments on Catholic blogs is always depressing.

I often forget how far they are from us.

I found the comment about Eastern Catholics being "crypto-Orthodox" hilarious.

"How dare they have right belief!"

I concur. But remember that many of those comments come from people whose relationship with the Roman Church is pretty tenuous though they do not recognize it. But yes, they have strayed far from the Church and I don't see Rome making the trip back. All one can do is wish them well in their spiritual journey and let them know that the welcome mat is out if they want to come back to the Church.

Rorate Caeli is populated by those Catholics wishing for a non-existent past to resurrect.

They're similar to those Orthodox who wish the same for their non-existent past.

I liked this comment:

Now is the time for inward healing in both bodies. Perhaps a few centuries from now one can look at the issue and see how things look then. But for now cooperation is a fool's errand in my view. It would only multiply problems. The ultimate end would be to drag Orthodoxy into the mess in which we find ourselves in Europe and the US. Vatican II is viral. Cooperation would only furnish an opportunity for that virus to find new hosts.
