What are the 2 deacons carrying on their shoulders during the censing? I've never seen that before.

I think the boxes are called Zions. I am not sure if they are reliquaries or they have some other use. I have never seen them used outside of the Russian Orthodox Church and then only during certain Lenten services usually with the Patriarch in attendance.
